Toronto East General Hospital – Minimally Invasive Surgery
The Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) program is a key initiative for TEGH.
As a more technically advanced approach to surgical care,
MIS allows surgeons to perform operations using multiple small incisions rather than the traditional large incision.
The surgeon views images of the interior of the body on high-resolution video monitors and performs surgery with
narrow gauge surgical instruments inserted through the other small incisions.
The advantages to the patient are numerous: less pain,
less scaring, less bleeding, reduced hospital stays and a quicker recovery time.
In addition, there is less chance of infection since the incisions are smaller.
